The Cuban sandwich originated in Cuba from the mixto - meaning mixed sandwich - including various meats and cheese. Most variations include pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. Over the years, ways to make the sandwich evolved, including variations that incorporate salami. These different takes on the sandwich arose in different cities as Cuban immigrants made their way to the United States
